Vet-eng

This year our 75 2nd year trainees from our Vocational Education Center in Imbaba participated in the VET-ENG project which GB Auto took part of with the objective of bridging the gap between engineering students and vocational education trainees. The project was designed to address the issues technicians and engineers face in working together due to lack of training they receive together before joining the workforce. The project consisted of  two main components; soft skills training which consisted of five courses provided by GB Academy that the students took as an icebreaker to get comfortable working together, after that, students were assigned to 15 groups with Engineering students from Nile University and Ain Shams University, each group was asked to design and implement a prototype with the object of simulating their working environment in the future. This project was also a good chance for our students to practice some of the technical skills they learn at school, such as sheering, turning, welding, assembly, etc…

Participating in this project gave our students the confidence they need to present and communicate their ideas to their peers effectively; the also learned to resolve conflicts that arise when implementing projects, and how to bridge design gaps creatively. This project was very successful in breaking down the misconceptions Vocational Education Trainees have on Engineering students and vise versa, it allowed both parties to look beyond the stereotypes, which consequently prepared them to work together in teams more effectively.
